Temperature Forecast Metadata

This temperature graph is generated using high-resolution numerical weather prediction data from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) HRES model and the UK Met Office forecasting system.

Forecast data is retrieved at 6-hour intervals for the selected location via API integration. The backend processes this data to calculate daily maximum (Tmax) and minimum (Tmin) temperatures. These values are then visualized using Highcharts for an interactive user experience.

To support impact-based forecasting and early warning, temperature values are classified into heatwave and coldwave categories based on threshold ranges defined by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

Coldwave Classification (Tmin)
Category Temperature Range (°C) Interpretation
Normal 10 – 36 No cold stress
Mild Coldwave 8 – 10 Slight cold discomfort
Moderate 6 – 8 Noticeable cold stress
Severe 4 – 6 High cold risk
Very Severe ≤ 4 Extreme cold hazard
Heatwave Classification (Tmax)
Category Temperature Range (°C) Interpretation
Normal 10 – 36 Comfortable range
Mild Heatwave 36 – 38 Elevated heat
Moderate 38 – 40 Significant heat stress
Severe 40 – 42 Dangerous conditions
Very Severe > 42 Extreme heat hazard
Note: Thresholds are based on operational guidelines from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD). The visualization includes color-coded bands and interactive controls for toggling between Tmax and Tmin views.
